Gravel bike tires allow you to adapt your bike to any type of terrain, from dirt to road. It is therefore imperative to understand the surface you intend to ride on and take into account the type of bike frame. Cyclocross tires, on the other hand, are different from road tires: they must guarantee high performance and speed on dirt roads of all kinds and in any weather.
Gravel bike tires must provide a smooth ride on linear surfaces, such as roads, but also perform well on uneven and bumpy terrain.
There are different types and sizes of mtb Gravel tires, each suitable for different purposes and performance needs. For example, with regard to the most difficult and uneven terrains, 700x40 Gravel tires are the best solution, as they are able to balance rotation, stability and smoothness. 700x28 Gravel tires are perfect for a Granfondo, as they can sustain long stretches of pedaling in an agile way. In general, 700x32 Gravel tires are medium sized tires that fit most bikes and are used for mixed trails.
Cyclocross bikes have a specific build: for example, the fork rake is more accentuated, allowing for wider wheels which improve stability even on the most difficult and muddy of terrains.
The wheels and tires on a cross bike must maximize pedaling and energy in every race. Consequently, different cyclocross tires are available according to the type of terrain you are riding on: from mud to the hardest of terrains, and from wet to dry or mixed conditions.
In general, cross bikes are not compatible with tyres that exceed 35mm in size, although it is possible to choose other types of cyclocross tires and try wider ones, but not for official races.
